Glauco Pellegrini Glauco Pellegrini, of Venetian origin, was born in Siena on January 14, 1919. He studied with, and became an assistant to, Francesco Pasinetti, the historian and theorist of Film, and in the early 'eighties taught directing at the Experimental Center for Film in Rome. He has mainly worked in the areas of music and the plastic and figurative arts. He has directed seven feature films, including Shadows on the Grand Canal, 1951; Symphony of Love (Schubert), 1954; A mink coat, 1956; The man in shorts, 1958; Italian Caprice (Goldoni), 1961. He has taken part in the Venice Film Festival (1951), the Karlevy Vary Festival (1956 and 1958) and in the Moscow Film Festival (1961). He has made over fifty documentaries (many of which have won prizes) and for more than fifteen years he has scripted and directed cultural and entertainment programmes for television, which have included: Bel canto (The Golden Age of Italian Opera); Canzone mia (A hundred years of popular song in Italy); Colonna sonora and Il giro del mondo on film music; Beethoven; Enrico Caruso. In 1966 he directed the telefilm The Paris Opera for the Socotec of Geneva. Under his direction, Norma opened the 1971-72 season of the Teatro Regio in Parma. A wide selection from his past work including Michelangelo and The Cubist experience, 1949; Giacomo Manzy's door for St Peter's, 1964; Present-day artists in the Vatican, 1974; Chorale for Carlo Levi, 1968 was shown at the Second International Biennale of Films on Art (Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou, June 1990). He is married to the harpist Vittoria Richter, who has been his collaborator for many years. Among the books he has published are: Non toglietemi il prossimo, 1970, a novel; Manzy e la Pace, 1976, from which he drew the film Il vento e l'amore, made with his students; +Va, va, cammina;, 1978, for the Bicentenary of the Scala opera house, with the collaboration of 19 performers; Il maestro veneziano; Pasinetti, 1981; Nel sole di Villa Strohl-Ferm: Carlo Levi, 1985; Manzy un film, (ed. A. Bellini), 1988, on the radical teaching-method he adopted at the Experimental Center; Gran Caffh Italia di Alberto Sughi, 1989; Dialoghi Vicentini (television reviews), 1991. |
