The Crucifixion
The Crucifixion
Oil on canvas, 1964 65cm x 90cm (26" x 36")

Artist's Interpretation:

Every man who believes in Christ has the right to think of Him in his own image. Thus Christ, the true son of God, will have the faces of all people who inhabit the earth whatever their colour, whatever their place of origin. "Crucifixion" symbolizes that belief.

Christ embodies all of the colours that characterize his believers, and those colours, in human form, are nailed to the cross, while the tree bows in humiliation (it provided the wood for the cross). It is a denuded landscape with clouds that reminds us of the roman spear and the inlet that invites us to purify not only our body but above all our soul.
