Artist's Interpretation:
Man has always been
tempted by the mystery that lies beyond the horizon; the horizon where the sky meets the sea, the
plain, the mountain, the horizon of his own mind. He challenged the stormy waters of the ocean
(Columbus - sailing vessel suspended in his imagination) and asked the wind to take him to the
known land by the unknown route (flag unfurled and flying the opposite direction). He pearced the
sound barrier of his consciousness (slab of primitive stone opened by the most accurate geometrical
form - the circle) to restore the equilibrium between his senses unaware of the danger to acquiesce
to all their needs (bottle-shadow at the right corner). He knows that he has to challenge reality
to acquire knowledge, and he has to use knowledge to acquire a fortune (jockey). By cutting the sky
in a way that suggests another sky, the clouds effect the transition from one level of reality to
another while the stone, fixed in space, freezes the transition in time (shadows).
