Apoteosi Ermetica (Hermetic Apotheosis)
Apoteosi Ermetica (Hermetic Apotheosis)
Oil on canvas, 1978/80 75cm x 90cm (30" x 36")

Artist's Interpretation:

The Apple plays an important role in the history, (recorded and unrecorded), of manking (Adam and Eve, Paris and helen of Troy...). It is a catalyst in human relations. "Apoteosi" proposes the physiognomy of the apple as a continuous presence beyond the tangible in the ephemeral realm of the mind. It does not represent Eve (woman) nor Adam (man) but rather that delicate balance of feelings which keeps man and woman together on the tightrope of their emotions. Society requires man, the original hunter, to provide for his family - he still does. Woman still holds the pivotal position in the family cirlce. Necessity or loneliness takes her out of her domain and thrusts her into the naked world either to alleviate her family's financial burden or to dispel her boredom; no matter her reasons, reluctantly she leaves behind her child (the original casting form for all the girls and boys of Tomorrow) and rises to the challenge. In the tranquillity of this golden shell we can still hear the sensual echo of the natural organ (mountain on the left, shadow on the right) playing the interlude between expectation and gratification.
